Family Portraits

We go anywhere! Our portraits are always fun and never boring. Our Austin portrait photography brings the flavor of Central Texas to a family heirloom photograph that is as unique as you are. We feature sessions that give you opportunity to express yourself enjoying life, and we never do “the same old thing”. We can work to create anything from an action portrait, to a formal photograph, in almost any setting. Many times, families prefer us to go where they are gathering, at a reunion, or their home, or someplace in the area that they love and enjoy. Other times we work in an iconic location to convey the feeling of “place”, like the Georgetown Square, the Austin Pennybacker Bridge, or the Texas State Capitol. Still other times a family wants a natural feeling for their portraits and we work in a local park like Mayfield Park in Austin, or a neighborhood park near the family.

In every location we work with the natural light and our own light to create just the perfect vignette around the family, making them look great in the environment.

Some Quotes from our Friends

The last professional portraits we had of our family were from the kids’ grade-school era. Now that they are 22, we decided it was past time for an update. Rather than try the do-it-yourself approach we had used to fill in the family-photo gaps over the years, we decided to call on our favorite local photographer to do the honors. Bill Ledbetter is a friendly pro who not only masters the complete photographic skill set with lighting, cameras and lenses, but he knows how to get everyone relaxed and looking their best. We chose to shoot at our home, and Bill scouted locations inside and out for a variety of settings, listening to our ideas while contributing his own in a real team effort. Among our favorite images from the session is one with the family grouped in front of a large portrait from when the kids were toddlers, showing how they have grown up. We created poses to appeal to the kids’ sense of identity as well as classic family images for the grandparents. After Bill sifted through all the shots, he invited us to his studio, where he used the latest technology to present the best of each setting and help us narrow down our selections. We highly recommend Bill of Imageclectic.

I got all kinds of wonderful comments, but I want to share one with you.  A former pastor/friend wrote, “I love this picture – it shows the deep love that abides between you two!”  I think that probably says what you were trying to do.

Joann and I enjoyed working with Bill and were delighted with the images he prepared for us. We had planned to mark this season of our life together, our home, and our dog Schnoodle. He listened to us and produced the results we wanted. Dan

Some posts about Austin Portrait Photography:

  • Austin Family Portraits One of my favorite things to do with a family is to photograph them in their own “space”, at home, at work, wherever that might be. I had the pleasure of working with this family at the home of the grandparents in the Spring, and we made this image right at the end of their ...
  • Precocious Portraits Wow, what fun it was to work with Charlotte! She is only three and has a wonderful personality. I had set up a simple little scene that I wanted her to “make believe” in, and the fun part was she just wasn’t buying it. But as I worked with her I made some wonderful photographs ...
  • Dancer in the Air I really like trying new things, photographically. I have a friend who is studying dance and I thought it would be fun to work on photographing her doing some typical dance jumps. So, we got permission to photograph on an actual performance stage, giving us a great background that was nice and wide, and spent ...
  • Family All Grown Up This family had a very early photograph of their children on the wall from when they were babies and we thought it would be pretty cool to feature that as part of the background behind the family now for their all together portrait. So, here we are at their home and the portrait is hanging ...
  • Portraits on the Front Porch I really enjoy it when I get to work at the home of the family I’m photographing; we always make something that is very unique to the family and perhaps even fits with previous portraiture they may have. A sense of place is important, and here we get to see the very unique steps at ...
  • Portraits at San Gabriel Park Another Fall portrait, this time taken at the beautiful San Gabriel Park in Georgetown, Texas. with the landscape and foliage always changing, we can always make something unique to the family, and the kids can really have fun as well while we work. I love the way the light is accenting the hair and shoulders here, ...
  • Family Portraits at Home Family Portraits at Home for Uniqueness Another set of family portraits this Fall, taken at home. I really like the matching red sweaters, which, I’m told, are over 30 years old! They only wear them for Christmas, and it was perfect for the portrait. The family dog was very cooperative, posing quietly while I captured some great ...
  • Ledbetter Family Christmas 2013 As is tradition here at my home, we pause during the Christmas celebration and take a quick portrait of the family and whoever is hanging out with us on Christmas morning. We are grown up enough that you pretty much cannot see the presents or even the tree hidden away, untouched as of yet. This is ...
  • Family Portraits at Brushy Creek Portraits at Memorial Park This Fall we had some great color in the Central Texas area, and I was able to make some family portraits along the Brushy Creek in Round Rock pretty late into the season. I love this area of Round Rock; the creek is wide enough, but not so wide that I cannot photograph ...
  • 2014 DSACT Calendar Portrait – Imagination Movers This is the first portrait session I did for the Down Syndrome Association of Central Texas and their 2014 calendar. This is my second year photographing for the association, and I totally loved it again. The Imagination Movers were great, letting us play around for quite a while. Matt wasn’t so keen on things at first, ...
