There’s a cool group that is working to be part of the solution to a bunch of the world’s problems called I AM CHANGE. They have a connection to Gilbert, a good friend of mine over at The Color Factory, who is a terrific artist. Gilbert helped to set up an exhibit of local artists’ work donated to the I AM CHANGE cause to help raise awareness and funding. I participated by donating a print and went last night to the event at dominican joe in South Austin and really enjoyed it.

The coffee shop is a great place all by itself, having a mission to help the world along as well. Check them out; they were a great host to the event. Gilbert did a “live painting” during the evening that he donated to the cause. It was fun to watch, and he went very fast. He worked from a picture on his iPhone taken by the I AM CHANGE folks on one of their trips and it was just impressive to see how he did it. I guess I’ve never really watched someone paint like that before; it’s a performance. During his time, the group the Reliques performed a set of their music as well as few covers. They’re very good, and really added to the whole experience.

In the end, I think the efforts gave I AM CHANGE some additional funds to help. A great Austin experience! Here are some of my photographs from the evening. You can see the piece I donated on the wall; it’s the mostly blue scene; I liked the connection to the I AM CHANGE mission to provide water in Haiti.

Bill, these shots are amazing, what a fun night, I asked Larry and Matt if they had any expectations for the night and their answer was no, this thing (I Am Change) is a call they have had and are led to follow and they have surrendered to just doing, and not asking why, where or how. I was so thankful to everyone who donated their talents and their time to come have a cup of coffee.
I see these pics and I am reminded how good you are and I think you need to have a whole show about a day in Austin Texas. Imagine this if you will, there is a local coffee joint… You fill in the blanks.

My new friend Bill…what a very kind gift you have given. Not just the “mostly blue” photo, but the heart behind your giving. Thank you for the very cool pics above and for taking the time to give of yourself for the evening. It epitomizes the heart of I AM CHANGE….now you’re a part of the movement. Thank you for being engaged. Lives are different today because you got involved yesterday.
