A Night for Children

Posted in Event on February 19th, 2010 by wblj – Be the first to comment

For the second year in a row, I was given the opportunity to photograph the Movie Night Fundraiser put on by the Williamson County Children’s Advocacy Center. This non-profit organization has a mission to help protect children and I was thankful to be there giving my time to some of my passions; photography, children and blessing people. Since the Center is a non-profit, they live on grants and donations; go meet the wonderful people there and help support their cause!

The Center puts this event on at the Georgetown City Lights Theater, which is a very nice theater with super nice people. The theater donates the space and service and the staff are really helpful and friendly to everyone. The next time you’re wondering where to watch a good movie, check this place out.

We’ll have a full gallery of photos up in the next week or so on the CAC’s website, but in the meantime, here are a few to give a flavor of the night.

Merry Christmas from the Family

Yesterday was a wonderful time for us and the larger family; we spent time thanking God for sending Jesus, blessing each other and just being together. I treasure days like that and I hope that all of you were able to enjoy some time with God, family and friends as well. Leah and and were also blessed to be a part of a 50th wedding anniversary yesterday afternoon; I’ll post some photographs and thoughts on that later. For now, here’s a “snapshot” of the day for us:

“Share the Passion”

I was blessed to be a volunteer photographer for the Down Syndrome Association of Central Texas (DSACT) 2010 Calendar Gallery Exhibition this past weekend. This group puts out an awareness calendar for the year and then hosts a party to release the calendar and honor the individuals on the calendar. I was very encouraged by the event and people there! The calendars are very cool and feature individuals with Down syndrome sharing their passions with celebrities. If you buy a calendar you support the organization here in Central Texas.

Several wonderful photographers volunteered their time to photograph the evening’s events, from the red carpet entrance by the calendar models to food, dancing and just plain fun. The main DSACT web page will be featuring some photography from all of us over the course of the next year, but here are just a few of the photographs I took that evening:

Corporate Work

Posted in Event, Portrait on May 24th, 2009 by wblj – Be the first to comment

I was brought in by another photographer as part of a photo shoot for a consulting company holding a business retreat at Horseshoe Bay recently, and here are a few of the images I made. These are meant to illustrate the company and what it does for their web site; open for business, getting down to the issues, able to help, etc. The people were great and didn’t mind my constant photography during their planning and operating meetings. I enjoyed working with these guys.

This kind of photography is a lot like wedding posed shots and reception work; everything is moving fast, people have other stuff to do and you really don’t want to interrupt the flow of things too much. Dynamic is the tempo here. I love working with people, especially when they are engaged and doing what they love and we can capture what makes sense together. Light is what “makes” a photograph and in these situations it is always a challenge to capture the moment with the right kind of light, whether the event is a reception, a meeting or a party. I use several off-camera lights strategically placed around the scene, fired by a radio remote on the camera to light the scene. This kind of lighting is one of the hallmark differences between the results in a professional photograph and a quick “candid” shot.

Relay for Life

Posted in Event on April 17th, 2009 by admin – Be the first to comment

Sometimes I get to participate in something bigger than just my own business; a few weeks back I was able to contribute by photographing the Hutto Relay for Life. These guys participate in the American Cancer Society efforts to find a cure for cancer by walking to raise money. I was able to experience parts of the event first-hand and capture some of the moments of the all-night relay; it was awesome!

Besides the actual relay, one of the highlights for me was to see the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets post the Colors as a part of the kick-off ceremony. Yes, I’m a graduate of TAMU!

Two fun guys hanging out at the Movie Night...

Two fun guys hanging out at the Movie Night...

Otherwise known as WCCAC, this is an awesome place in Georgetown for kids who need an advocate in difficult situations. I went along to their Movie Night fundraiser held back in February and photographed the donors all having a great time together at the Georgetown City Lights Theatres. True Grit was the movie for the evening, with food and drink served ahead of time in the lobby and adjoining room. CJ, one of the many friends of the WCCAC, dressed up and posed with anyone wanting a photo with the Duke. He was a hoot!

Check out the WCCAC website to see more about their mission and to find out how you can help. And take a look at a slideshow from the evening back over on the imageclectic website.
