Wedding Extravaganza Update

We had a wonderful time on Sunday talking to brides, grooms, moms and trusted advisors or brides! It seemed like the best show we’ve ever participated in with so many people and lots of interest in great photography. It was a pleasure to meet so many people and talk about some the most important photographs a person can get.

Here is our final booth setup, taken with a real camera this time… We were very pleased with the way the oak covered the back grid wall; we kinda came up with that approach and the drawer knobs at the last minute, looking for something a little nicer than our previous setups.

Just a quick post for all you wedding folks; tomorrow is the Big Day in Austin! The Austin Wedding Guide is hosting one of their famous Bridal Extravaganzas at the Palmer Event Center and we’ll be there! Come on over and check it (and us) out. We’d love to see you there. We created a slightly different booth design this time around and both Hannah and I are very pleased. We’ll both be in the booth all afternoon, so come over and say “hi”.

Visual Stories

We photographed a wedding at Chapel Dulcinea back in January and I was recently going back through the images and two stood out to me. I thought I’d share the story behind the images. The first is the groom waiting for his bride to come up to the altar with her dad; Scott is reading over his notes of what all he might say at the right moments during the service, and especially during the time of blessing with his soon-to-be step daughters. The second is during that actual blessing time; the thing I love is that we have a visual story in the second photograph. The piece of paper, no longer important to the event itself, lies on the floor just behind the all-encompassing moment for the new family. Pretty cool, huh?

One of My Favorites

Here is a portrait taken at a wedding in 2008 that I really like. I love the lines and colors here; the groom is in the background, giving a sense of focus to the bride’s face and we get to see a glimpse of the details of her dress, necklace and earrings as well as of her veil. This photograph was taken during the ceremony and captures the emotion of turning towards her groom. I think it really means something to have a photographer focused on capturing these kinds of moments as they happen; I love being there!

It was a perfect outdoor wedding; the location was Chateau on the Creek in Round Rock, Texas and the weather was amazing. The bride and groom looked fantastic and the event was beautiful.

Here are some of my favorite images from this past Saturday. The wedding was at Hope Chapel and the reception was at The Quarries (part of Hyde Park Baptist Church). Of course, it was the fantastic weather that really made the day memorable; well, that and the wedding itself. One of the things I love about this particular wedding was the bride’s insistence that we set aside a little time to create some portraits of just the two of them. The weather cooperated perfectly and we ended up with some wonderful photographs.

The first image here exemplifies one of those “precious moments” that I love to be a part of; as the wedding party all walked on to the pier or dock there at The Quarries lake, we asked them to move as far out as possible to make the photograph more interesting. The guy on the right said emphatically “NO!” – I was kind of shocked for just a second until he explained and I looked more closely. The whole dock was angling into the water and there seemed to be some danger that everyone would be taking a bath much sooner than expected. So, he stood back on the right to help keep the dock balanced while we took the pictures “quickly”. It was fun and no one in the wedding party was actually harmed in the making of the photographs…

I think I’ve said it before; the best part about a wedding for me is the emotion. I just love how the very visible commitment between two people brings out the lump in my throat. I was, however, surprised to see the pastor “lumping up” while he was performing the ceremony; you just expect that a pastor is sort of immune to that kind of thing But not here, which added to the wonder. I think my favorite part of this wedding was right after the ceremony. I followed the bride and groom outside to let all the guests head over to the reception hall and she just couldn’t stop giggling. She was completely giddy! What a blessing to see her excitement and pleasure. May your life together be filled with laughter, fun and blessing!
