“Fully Alive” Art Exhibit with Fine Art Photography

Fine Art Photography

From time to time I create images in the fine art photography genre to allow me to explore God’s creation and express something of beauty, or interest to me. This past Spring I spent a little time with my image catalog of things I had photographed and tried something new; composite photography. In each of these three images, O took several items I had photographed in the past several years and combined them to help tell a story of significance to me. The three pieces have a common theme; the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ as given in the Christian faith. So, that means there are some common elements in the photographs. The images are now on display at the Open Doors Gallery of the Hill Country Bible Church in NW Austin.

Here are a few words about each:

Communion

Christian communion can be a very solemn and formal celebration, as we remember our Lord’s ultimate sacrifice for us. Photographs from several Maundy Thursday and Good Friday celebrations are combined to emphasize the Love Jesus poured out on us in His death on the cross.

Worship

Worship is a focus on Who is at the center of our affection, transcending our acts of singing, playing instruments, dancing and motion. This composite brings several elements together to show our worship even as it combines with the heavenly angels around the throne of God in magnificent color and glory.

The Elements

Here are some of the elements that might be found in a Christian remembrance of Christ’s suffering on the cross, celebrated in communion; the bread, wine, the cross, prayer and quiet.

And here are the images. Each is a framed 11×14 print in a 16×20 mat.

November Art Show

I’ve got my show up at the Gallery Off the Square for the month of November. We had the most people I think I’ve seen come in at once last Friday; it was great. Our monthly show has now been listed in “The Best of Georgetown” as one of the best places to buy art! How cool is that.

October 2011 Gallery Showing

It’s that time of the month again! I have some of my artistic photography showing over at the Gallery Off the Square in Georgetown. Sadly, was not able to be there this past Friday, but my work made it! Please take a tour by and see all the great art; we’ve got an amazing set of artists and work. And once you’ve seen the art on my wall, be sure and look up above the front door; I have two pieces there as well.

I really enjoy creating photographic pieces like these; I hope you enjoy seeing them as well. If you do, be sure and sign up for my newsletter over here: imageclectic newsletter.

September Gallery Off the Square

I neglected to post about the current display of my art at the Gallery this month, so here is a post! I’m featuring some of my Austin photography, especially the State Capitol and the Pennybacker bridge. In addition, I’ve started offering a select set of digital art cards, featuring my painted balloons from last month’s gallery display. If you missed those framed prints, check these cards out! They’re having on the wall to the right of the display.

I’m also showing some fish-eye lens photographs of storefronts at night around the Georgetown Square. These prints have a very different “feel” to them, because of the type of lens used.

“Focus and Breathe” on Austin Skyline

I was wandering around Town Lake and enjoying the summer and noticed that the skyline was really popping with the sunset. This is one of the closer crops of the scene. Can’t see all the iconic buildings, but I like the drawings on the train bridge along with the sunset reflecting on the buildings you can see. I was playing around with a neutral density filter so the water would turn out smooth.

First Friday Show

It’s another month at Gallery Off the Square and I have a new set of art on display. Every month, on the first Friday, some of the businesses on the square stay open late and the Gallery Off the Square brings in a new rotation of art for people to enjoy. All this month there are some great pieces there; stop by and see what you think!

Here’s a photo of the part of the gallery dedicated to my work:

Bluebonnets on Willow Loop

This is a panorama taken last year that really shows off a beautiful section of the Texas Hill Country. Out along the Willow City Loop last year we had perfect conditions for an amazing display of bluebonnets, and I went out there to see what kind of photograph I could make. This is by far my favorite from the trip. You can see the “river” coming down from the left along the lower ridge, and then “spilling” down from the right back to the center. A beautiful scene!

There are 9 different images in this panorama.

Sunset Cloud

We’ve had so little rain here in Central Texas this spring, and when we saw this could formation I was torn; joy over the beauty of it and joy of possibility. The sunset was just setting and the glancing colors were stunning as they hit the clouds. Alas, it did not rain that evening. But, we enjoyed the anticipation!

I’ve gone several times over to Kenz Guitars on the square in Georgetown; this last time I met Ken and he let me inside to do a little shooting. He’s a great guy, willing to stop and talk with you, show you around, and I really enjoyed getting to know him. This is an evening shot inside the store showing all the fun colored guitars and long with the beautiful wood instruments as well. I appreciate fine guitars and Kenz has some great ones.
